Bellsquarry Village

What?

This is the future home of a website dedicated to the community of Bellsquarry. Historically, Bellsquarry was a rural village and a centre for limestone mining, and for a brief period in the 19th century was the site of a small-scale shale oil works. The likely location of the oil works is indicated on the 1893 Ordnance Survey map below, adjacent to an area of woodland then known as “The Wilderness”.
